In this lecture series, rolling bearing are introduced as an example of an important category of machine elements. Following topics are part of the lecture:

  • Load and load distribution
  • Lubrication of rolling bearings
  • Bearing capacity and lifetime
  • Application boundaries
  • Friction
  • Surface induced damages and kinematics
  • Dynamics
  • Strength and cage design
  • Damage analysis
  • Origin and future

The focus of the lecture are the calculation and the design of the roller bearing components. In addition, relevant damage symptoms are discussed by means of examples and insights.

The actual state of the art is the base of the lecture’s content. A presentation of research results is a part of the content.
