Methodical assistance through the potentials of additive manufacturing processes

The use of additive manufacturing processes brings a multitude of advantages and boundary conditions. These range from new constructive freedoms through shortened process chains. For example in case of original shaped components and possibilities for product architectural optimization of modular products. The previous approaches and tools for the targeted use of the potentials of additive manufacturing under consideration of process-specific restrictions are usually limited to the application of components. They are at least already in the design stage.

The aim of the research is a procedure model which provides the systematic consideration and use of the potentials of additive manufacturing processes in the early phases of product development. Both potentials and restrictions on the activities of the product and process development process are made available in a supportive manner.
